30 thought-provoking journaling prompts for self-awareness

I’m a huge fan of journaling. I use it for all sorts of things - reflection, self-awareness, problem solving, creativity… you name it. Journaling was a huge part of my own growth. It helped me understand who I am on a soul level, how I can contribute in the world, and how I could actively pursue my authentic purpose. 


The following prompts are all about self-awareness. These prompts encourage you to become more aware of what you believe about yourself, how you interact with others, how you feel, how you behave etc. These were the questions I asked myself when I realized I'd lost touch with who I was and wanted to get to know myself on a deeper level. If you can, spend at least 10-20 minutes each day journaling. Put time aside to do it in your calendar. Make it a priority - you won't regret it.


  1. How would I describe myself?

  2. If my body could talk what would it say?

  3. What’s a moment I experienced through my body? (This could be making love, having a fight, experiencing something new etc). Leave out thought and emotion, and describe all information through the body and senses.

  4. What do I like about who I am? What do I dislike?

  5. What are the roles I play?

  6. Who am I outside of the roles I play?

  7. What makes you unique?

  8. What things stress me?

  9. How do I behave when I’m stressed?

  10. What do I want my life to look like? What do I want to accomplish in this lifetime?

  11. If I could make a living doing anything, what would I do?

  12. What brings me joy?

  13. What makes me feel nourished on all levels? (mind, body, spirit)

  14. If money wasn’t an issue, what would I be doing with my time?

  15. If could live anywhere, where would I live?

  16. What do I do in my day-to-day life that makes me feel appreciated, fulfilled, and happy?

  17. What’s a time in my life when I felt happy?

  18. What relationships mean the most to me? Are they mutually beneficial? Are there relationships I’d like to strengthen or let go of?

  19. What have I accomplished so far in my life that I’m proud of?

  20. How do I want to be remembered?

  21. What areas of my life am I displeased with?

  22. Make a list of everything I wish I could say “no” to.

  23. Make a list of everything I wish I could say “yes” to.
    What will happen if I continue on the path I’m currently on?

  24. If I could change one area of my life, what would it be?

  25. If I had no fear today, what would I do?

  26. What am I truly committed to?

  27. What are some of my daily habits? Are they helping me achieve my goals?

  28. What am I self-conscious about?

  29. What inspires me?

  30. The words I want to live by are ______.
